Indonesian Plane Crashes Into the Sea by COnnor Seifert
This past Monday there was a plane crash in Indonesia; it is said that all 189 passengers died, but this has not been confirmed because the plane crashed into the Java Sea shortly after taking off from the countries capital, Jakarta.
Currently, there is a team of thirty divers looking for the black box in the wreckage of the plane. The black box is a device that records altitude, cockpit communications, and many other things that can be very helpful in determining the cause of a crash. It is assumed that the crash was not caused by a bomb because witnesses say there was no explosion when the plane hit the water.
There is now mounting concern for the safety of Indonesia’s aviation standards. There have been multiple crashes in the past few years, and in 2007 the European Union placed bans on Indonesian airlines for “unaddressed safety concerns.” These bans had just been lifted this past June.
The plane experienced a technical problem during a flight on Sunday, but it was resolved before the flight on Monday began. The last communication with the flight was the pilots requesting to turn around and land back in Jakarta shortly after takeoff. Not long after the communication, the plane plummeted into the sea.
Though it is not clear what caused the crash, the erratic flight pattern taken by the pilot suggest that there was an issue with the pitot-static system in the plane. The one still unanswered question remains, what is causing all of these planes to crash? For more info on the crash go to this article

New and Spooky Netflix Additions by Luke Lencioni
Netflix has been making a bang with the addition of many excellent shows and movies, some Netflix Originals, and some not. The most notable include, The Haunting of Hill House, Angel Eyes, Billy Madison, The Green Mile, The Shining, Big Mouth: Season 2, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
The two newer shows making the most buzz from the list are The Haunting of Hill House and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The former is an adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s 1959 book, also titled The Haunting of Hill House, which has already been made into movies twice, in 1963 and 1999. In short, the 10-episode show is about the horrors a family experiences while staying in Hill House; the show switches around in different times of the family’s life multiple times, so you also see how the family has been affected by the house much later in life. The show is being talked about all over every social media, especially for how frightening the show is.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is based on the light-hearted comics Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which previously had another live-actions series with the same title that first aired in 1996. This new series is headed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the man responsible for Netflix’s Riverdale. Riverdale is also based on comics made by the same writer as Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The story is about Sabrina Spellman, who struggles with choosing between a normal life and or pursuing a life in the dark arts of witchcraft. This new show is supposed to be a little darker than previous adaptations, a perfect show for October.
With many great additions this month, mostly Halloween related, the attention Netflix is getting is well deserved.

Saugatuck In the Playoffs round 2 by Jared latchaw
After a wild offensive shootout in Kent City last Friday ending with an Saugatuck victory, 49-28, it’s time for the Indians to gear up to head into the second round of playoffs.
Kent City was the largest school in the division 7 playoffs. However, the Indians will face their toughest opponent this Friday, traveling to Pewamo-Westphalia to face the Pirates. This has been one of the biggest matchups in previous years for division 7, typically meeting in the second round with the exception of last year, when they played each other on Ford Field for the state title.
In 2015, the two teams met in round 2 and finished with the Pirates winning 38-28. The following year, the two teams met in round 2 once again, with Pewamo narrowly winning 25-19.
This last season ended with the two teams meeting in the finals and the Pirates winning once again, 21-0. The Indians are headed into this week wishing to end the losing streak and come out on top.
Both years that the Pirates eliminated the Indians in round 2 had them going to the state finals, losing in 2015 and winning in 2016. As two of the most dominant teams in the division, this will be a game to watch. The Pirates will enter the contest at 10-0, including an impressive win against division 4 Williamston.
The Indians will enter at 9-1 with just a double overtime loss to division 6 Schoolcraft. There will be a spectator bus headed to the game Friday if it fills by Wednesday. Sign ups will be in the office.

No ride to the football game? by cooper myers
The Saugatuck High School football team plays at Pewamo-Westphalia this next Friday. For those of you who don’t know, this is the bitter rival that the Indians have met the last three years in playoffs. Unfortunately, Saugatuck came out on the lower half each of the three times they faced the Pirates. This will be a very memorable competition between the two schools. Students who would like to attend this event, but do not have transportation, will have the opportunity to ride on the spectator bus.
It is about an hour and a half long ride there, and the game will start at seven. Students should be aware that a few additional items should be brought with. The weather will be around 50 degrees and raining, so a sweatshirt, pants, and possibly a blanket will suffice. Also, bringing money for concessions could be a good idea because the game will take a few hours. Riding on the bus will allow kids to interact and spend time with peers for a more interesting ride. This will also save students gas money for those who would have driven, otherwise.
The football team appreciates all of the support. The larger the audience, the more confidence the players will have. As Saugatuck is a small town, our team needs the most backing possible! For a view of the 2017 Saugatuck vs. Pewamo-Westphalia football game click here.
